Marines describe brutal fighting at Chateau Thiery with trench knives and shellfire. Private Pelton and others recount icy guard duty, mass evacuations, and narrow escapes as German forces pressed toward Paris.
The Marines who started the advance at Chateau Thiery, which halted the German push, have not yet stopped their march toward Berlin.
A. J. Moore of Vernon Route 3 says he would seek The Vernon Record even at a five dollar annual rate, instead of the current eight dollar price after November 1. He renewed at the old rate and praises the paper’s community correspondence. Moore plans to make twenty bales of cotton from about 159 acres, has fed fifteen tons, and expects good rain to start another year.
