Theatre party hosts and guests a Saturday gathering

Mrs W N Stokes hosted a theatre party Saturday with guests including her sister Mrs George Martin of Los Angeles and Mrs J E Piper. Also attending were Mrs W F Jackson of Seattle Mrs Piper's sister Mrs To E Randolph of San Antonio Mrs R B Gibson Mr O A Brunson and Mrs Bo A Willits. After the films the group went to a confectionery where chocolate and cakes were served.

Presbyterians Generous On Behalf Of Orphans

Rev SS TK Standifer of Albany Texas presided at the Presbyterian church Sunday services. He preached on The Doctrine in the Knowledge of Christ. Gaines Bath led prayer and the local choir. A collection of 375 was taken for the orphans and Vernon Presbyterians contributed 140 to the same cause.

W M Gourley superintendent of Oklaunion schools visited Vernon Saturday and reported the Oklaunion school turned out to pick cotton this fall. Enrollment is about one hundred. studies will resume December 1 after gathering crops, with work progressing nicely prior to interruption.

Engine Hits Brakeman Farrington in Texas Accident

A Wichita Valley brakeman, Farrington, was killed when an engine rolled onto him at Anson Texas. The train slid from the spur and toppled the engine, tearing ties. Funeral held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at East View Cemetery officiated by Rev. J A Poster. He left a wife and three children. sister in Wichita Falls.

County Agent Tisdale told farmers the short staple cotton crisis stems from warEra demand for explosives and postwar demand collapse. He warned buyers favor long staple and warned the local market has dropped as exporters pull back.
