The nineteenth annual convention of the Texas Retail Coal Centers Association opened in Vernon with about 100 visitors. Mayor Harry Mason welcomed guests and Harvey S. Trewitt of Dallas replied. Elijah Coles of Houston presided as president, while J E Thompson of Henryetta Okla outlined industry conditions and urged closer harmony among retailers wholesalers operators and the public. The misaligned postwar costs and high freight rates were cited as key factors. The program includes speeches, Rotary luncheon, a Chamber banquet, and dances with golf on Hill Crest.

Arrest May Clear Up Butterfly Murders
Police credit a recent arrest of Harry Jackson alias Lesser with solving the butterfly murder cases in New York. He is charged with abducting Mrs. Howard Johnson and robbing her of jewels worth 9000 dollars at a hotel, while two actresses Dot King and Louise Lawson were killed. Mrs Johnson survived by struggling free from bondage.

The Lockett Baptist Church eight miles southwest of Vernon will be dedicated Sunday with ceremonies. The church, recently erected, was paid for by the local congregation. Rev. Adear Pippin will preach the dedicatory sermon and a basket dinner will follow.
