Harrold High School will present a three act comedy Bar Haven in the school auditorium Saturday night. The cast includes Captain Harper played by Professor R M Holt with Sam Gribble as Tardy Stone and Kate Wardell portrayed by Grace Kelly. The seacoast Maine setting features roles for Leo Bradley Gideon Graham Arbella Wortendyse and Spray Harper among others.

Vernon Racing Dates Set for August in Texas Circuit

The Texas Fair Racing Circuit met in Fort Worth to set schedules for racing meets in Texas and Oklahoma. Vernon is allotted August 1–16, Childress July 25 to August 2, Quanah August 4 onward, with Vernon likely separate from the county fair. Directors have not decided on fair dates or whether a Vernon race meet will coincide with the county fair.

Vernon Wichita Falls Train Service Decision Soon

A decision on restoring the Vernon to Wichita Falls plug train by the Fort Worth and Denver will come in a day or two. Chamber of Commerce officials held talks with Denver officials in Wichita Falls and Vernon officials expect a ruling early next week. Officials cited passenger traffic and Vernon oil-field prospects as factors in the possible revival of the service.

Deputy W A Ish reported that the First State Bank in Warreld was entered Sunday night by breaking a rear window. The vault was untouched and only a pistol appears missing. No suspects are known.

Hunt County votes 2.9 million for roads in special election

Hunt County voters approved a bonds issue for road construction by a wide margin. The measure, reported as one of the largest in Texas, aims to build concrete roads eight feet wide with shoulders. The county claims to be a pioneer in Texas for such concrete road work.

County Hospital Bond Proposal Defeated in Special Election

Complete returns from most boxes show 360 votes for bonds and 460 against with low turnout. Advocates blame lack of organized campaign and misleading tax-rate claims that masked a 30 cent per thousand rate. Only a few precincts supported the bonds, and supporters hope for a new election within a year after law allows.

Oil showing reported at the Empire Oil Company test well on the Y ranch fifteen miles west of Crowell. PT Herring and LX Johnson own the 40 000 acre ranch. The well is in the northern portion and has not been bailed out. Prospects are reported favorable for a good well with more wells likely to be started on Crowell acreage soon.

County Agent N. R. Tisdal reports many farmers have not collected their Lone Star cotton seed stored at Bargdell & Stanley. Seed, in three bushel sacks, costs 3.25 dollars per bushel plus Dallas freight and must be obtained through the county agent to avoid storage charges.

The American Red Cross begins a county clothing drive to supply war devastated areas in Europe and Asia. Four district chairs coordinate workers to collect usable garments including shoes hats hose underwear and outerwear for all ages. Rainfall record shows Vernon totals surpass last year

Over five inches of rain fell in Vernon from Sunday into Monday, totaling 2.61 inches for March and 5.14 inches since January 1. J. O. Renfro's records indicate 17.4 percent of rainfall since August 1, 1918, with most since December 1. The wet spell boosts prospects for spring planting.
