Backus and Prince Fire Damages Chickens and Equipment
Vernon Fire Department answered two alarms Sunday morning. The first blaze started from a brick chimney at G W Backus on South Wood street, quickly extinguished after a floor hole was cut. The second fire at J F E Prince on West Wilbarger street involved a lamp piece under a Hoover exploding. outside the water zone, sixty five baby chicks and $300 worth of equipment were burned. Mrs Prince had prepared brooder houses for the season.

Red River Bridge Discussed Friday Night
A Vernon Frederick committee met Friday at the library to explore funding for a Red River bridge on the Tee Highway. Oklahoma lawmakers aim to include a large enough Hill to cover four or five bridges between Vernon and Frederick. R H H Coffee presided and named a committee to urge Chamber of Commerce support and a joint Vernon Oklahoma City conference with Southern Oklahoma lawmakers. Library Exhibit Boosts Presbyterian Fund at Vernon
Miss Lillian Newton Vernon county librarian plans an exhibit for the American Library Association meeting in Lit tle Rock April 28 to May 2. The display will map county locations, show school buildings and homes, include a county library photo, and depict paths leading to the library. The exhibit highlights youth research, worn books, and the library's role funded by county taxation. In Vernon, the Presbyterian congregation has raised about 15000 for a new church building. A building committee led by Dr Job Tall and others was formed, with plans to move the old building, choose a new site, and begin construction likely before May 1. Reverend B E Moore has led the church as pastor about two years.

Stolen Ford Tourer Recovered in Oklahoma
Forrest Nowlin reported a five passenger Ford touring car stolen Friday night near Eldorado. The vehicle was found in Hiderado, Oklahoma about three hours later. Sheriff Edmonson escorted Nowlin to recover the car Sunday. the thief fled across a field but was not captured. Eldorado and Altus officials coordinated, and Vernon police were alerted after the theft.
