Wichita County to Finance 8 Million Highway System
Voters approve 7 to 1 the issuance of 1,000,000 five per cent 40 year bonds and 1,000,000 six per cent 50 year serial bonds to fund a permanent Wichita County highway network. Projects include routes from the Clay county line to Wilbarger, Wichita Falls to Red River via Burkburnett, and toward Seymour to Baylor county. State and Federal aid cover over half the cost with total spend at about 8 million dollars. Farmers gain faster market access and year round transport to Wichita Falls and nearby towns. The question remains how long residents will resist paying the remaining half.
