Drop in Wheat Prices Shakes Local Market
A dramatic drop in wheat prices began last Friday, with grain sliding thirty five cents from peak and continuing through Saturday and Tuesday. Oats fell about twenty one cents per bushel while sellers rush to unload before further declines. Local traders cite absence of foreign buyers and millers as key factors, noting exporters support the market while farmers hurry to sell to clear storage. J A Birdsong and J S Sewell comment on uncertain direction and lack of predictability in the market.
