R E Montgomery Succumbs in Wichita Falls at 73
R E Montgomery, who platted over 500 acres of Vernon townsite and laid out Wichita Falls, died at a Wichita Falls hotel at 10 a m Tuesday of heart failure. He was 73. Survived by his widow in Portland, Ore a son in Philadelphia and a daughter in New York. Montgomery was townsite agent for the Denver railroad during its Wichita Falls to Vernon route era. His Vernon real estate, held in the Texas Townsite Company, was valued in the thousands, with additional property along the Vernon road. He lived in Wichita Falls in winter and summers in Canada and recently visited Vernon for business.
