Purebred males boost Leghorn egg output in three-flock test
Records from the North Carolina Experiment Station, via the USDA, show three Leghorn flocks. Flock 1 used common hens, flock 2 used common males, and flock 3 used a high producing rooster. The next year eggs per hen rose to 4 eggs for flock 1, SS for flock 2, and 186 for flock 3, with a 4 D per cent gain. The rise reflects the impact of purebred sires, though much of the gain came in May and June when prices were strong and production was lower.
