Potatoes Curing Plant Suggested for Wilbarger County
Dallas promoter J. Evans touts Wells Sweet Potato Curing System as a catalyst for Wilbarger County potato farming. He argues private profit drives local curing plants, creating ready markets, standard grading, and storage. An 80 000 bushel plant could be funded by a half dozen farmers, with Vernon business interest noted. Evans plans another visit to discuss construction details.

Vernon Loses Water Pressure Five Hours During Pipe Break
Vernon suffered five hours without fire protection as a snake pipe at the pumping station broke causing a near total loss of water from the three foot wells. The failure followed the break of a 100 pound bit used to clean out wells, which slipped, snapped the line, and disrupted the suction for the entire system. City crews rushed to restore flow, and by five o'clock water levels began to rise again as the plant worked to refill the intake and restore normal supply. The city reports purified water with no harmful bacteria, though magnesia content causes occasional beltier complaints.
