Diversified Crops urged for Wilbarger County Farmers
County statistics show last year had broader crop diversification than the two prior years. Cotton and wheat were the main money crops with 6 to 6 thousand acres of cotton and 40 to 45 thousand of wheat, while feed stuffs, small grain, sorghum and corn totaled about 210000 acres. Experts urge farmers to diversify again, raise hogs and livestock, grow a garden with diversified truck, and plant enough feed to cover the year. Track farming is profitable for some, with onions, potatoes, lettuce, beets, melons and many truck vegetables produced locally. About 250 acres were cultivated in garden crops last year.
