Napier Brothers, three in number, located on North Main street Vernon, took over the T. H. Shire Motor Company in July 1918 as Ford agency. They store 40 Fordson tractors and over 500 cars, with $15,000 in Ford accessories on hand and a busy repair shop handling Ford and Fordson models only.
A public notice states that trespassing on the property three miles northeast of Vernon will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law under applicable statutes. The notice is issued by SMITH and refers to Chapter 98 Saint Paul district enforcement.
The Lys PINit Shop established by D Estes in 1915 on east Wilbarger Street focused early on bicycle tires and general merchandise. During World War I Estes joined the Aviation Corps, later returning to repair work including tires and auto accessories, welding, acetylene work, lathes, and general repairs.
The article advises modernizing antifreeze use and radiator maintenance. It warns that hose connections can appear firm yet fail inside, suggesting an inner tube section and clamps to prevent leaks. It stresses protecting tires and rubber from light water oil and heat to slow deterioration.

Vernon travelers Bob More and Diekd Staley set out by car from Vernon for the west, crossing deserts from El Paso to Yuma and San Diego in eleven days. Facing a raging arroyo flood near eastern New Mexico they camped two days, paying 9 cents a gallon for gas, and returned home full of cautionary tales for future explorers.
A new concern named Q nality Tire & Battery Service Company operates at 201 South Main Street Electra with J L Shows as manager. Shows, formerly with the Texas Company, moved here three months ago to start the business handling Tlinkeye mile tires and battery work.
In some cars the floor boards cover the clutch throw-out collar and require lubrication. Owners often neglect lubrication until failure occurs. Installing an oil line feeding a grease cup through the floor and into a metal pipe to the throw-out collar is advised for continued lubrication.

In February 1917 the city witnessed its first motor driven hearse, owned by T. J. Youngblood and still in service today. M. Underwood undertaker recently added an ambulance, ending horse drawn vehicles for local funerals. Previously funerals from country locations could take a whole day.
