Larkin Allen, one month old, died Wednesday at home north of Vernon. Funeral services were held at East View Cemetery at daybreak yesterday. W T Rouse, pastor of the First Baptist Church, conducted the rites. Mrs J E McMillian attended from Childress to visit her mother, Mrs BD J Payley, after returning from a trip with her husband to Salt Lake City and Denver following their marriage three weeks ago. Mr McMillian is an engineer in Denver.
The planned sale of West Vernon Oil Company stock to Seattle oil operators failed after the buyers did not share terms. The deal would have left Wilbarger County residents with about $15,000 of stock and moved to assume the drilling contract with Key Bros supervising. The capitalization would have dropped to 425,000 with 41 Iowa Park acres withdrawn, and drilling may proceed with equipment due within weeks two and a half miles west of Vernon.
Justice of the Peace L. Fo Griffiths dismissed two traffic violation cases after arraignments, noting that the cars would be equipped with lights. Two arrests were made Tuesday night on charges of operating automobiles without lights, a violation of state traffic laws.
