Funeral Rites Held For Joe Goodger At Tolbert Cemetery

Joe Goodger died at Farmers Valley Monday night from influenza developed into pneumonia. He was 25, formerly studied at a mechanical school in Kansas City Missouri. Funeral services were held at Tolbert Cemetery Thursday afternoon led by Rev Frank McNair of Tolbert Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife. Sympathy letters may be sent to the bereaved family.

H A Dodson married Mrs Winnie Jones at 6250 oclock Wednesday in the First Methodist church parsonage. The wedding occurred at the couple’s West Wanderer street residence where they will reside. Friends extend best wishes and congratulations.

Plan to organize county ex-soldiers Saturday meeting

A meeting of discharged county soldiers at the library resulted in a temporary organization with T. L. Rouse as chairman and Ray S. Carney as secretary. A permanent group will be formed Saturday afternoon to plan countywide activities and assist with the Victory Loan drive. Volunteers urged to submit names and addresses of ex-soldiers to Carney at the Record office.

Funeral services for N F Sagely were held at Thatta cemetery at 4 PM Wednesday conducted by Rev RV Tooley. Death occurred Tuesday after a long illness. Sagely was forty seven years old.

Fire alarms at Farmers Hotel soot blaze

Volunteer firemen were roused at about six yesterday morning by a fire alarm. The blaze proved to be only soot ignition in a hotel flue on Fast Pease street and caused no damage as firefighters arrived too late.

Woolworth head F. W. Woolworth died at 7 am Tuesday at nearly 67. The Lancaster store and all Woolworth locations were closed in mourning. The company, 40 years old in Lancaster, operates 1038 stores with last year’s sales around 107.2 million dollars.

Will Auction Thrift Bank For Sale Saturday

The Thrift Bank will be auctioned Saturday afternoon. The building, erected last year to aid in selling War Savings Certificates and Thrift Stamps, benefited from donated carpentry and painting by two sons. Lumber and materials totaled about R175. Stamps remain on sale, and no new members are being appointed.
