Palmer Gin Plant Fire Shuts Down Vernon North Plant

A massive blaze destroyed the Palmer's Gin company plant north of the Denver tracks on Saturday night. With a fierce north wind at 40 to 50 mph and a distant fire plug, firefighters could not connect water. Eight bales of ginned cotton, about 35 tons of cotton seed, and vast bagging were incinerated while flames threatened nearby northeast Vernon residences. Spectators watched as the fire raged and winds pushed embers to new heights, but no other fires resulted.
