Czechoslovak Troops Formed in Italian Army History
Prisoners from the Austrian army in World War I volunteered in 1918 to fight Austria, forming a Czechoslovak division under Italian command. They fought with Italy at the Plave battle in June 1918 and at Vittorio Veneto from October 24 to November 3, contributing to the defeat of Austria and pressing Germany toward an armistice on the western front. Crops Mortgaged to Land Bank May Be Replanted
County agent N R Tisdal reports from the Bureau of Industry on provisions for fall 1918 crops mortgaged to the Federal Land Bank as government fiscal agents. If a crop is totally destroyed a farmer may file a written statement with the Federal Land Bank or Agricultural Department agent. An investigation will determine if a certificate of failure is warranted, allowing planting to other crops.

River Breach Opens Flood Gap Near Vernom

Rain Totals Flood Wells County in Week of Deluge
Wet weather drenched Welbarger County with a weekend storm and a midweek flood. Reported rainfall reached about 26.05 inches in places with another 4.08 inches Saturday and Sunday, pushing weekly totals to roughly 12 inches. Pease River ran bank to bank, creeks overflowed, and overall county drainage struggled under the heavy precipitation. Since January 1 the total rainfall measured around 542 inches.
