Ashby Snow Named Democratic Choice at State Convention

Ashby Snow was nominated as the Democratic candidate for U S congress by the state convention held in Salt Lake City. Judge George Christensen and William F Wallace Sr were also chosen for state offices, while plans to expand county chairmen and the state committee were approved, expanding the committee to about seventy five members.

Tridel Holds Annual Club Achievement Fair

The Boys and Girls Club at Tridel held its achievement day with sewing cooking canning and home garden exhibits. Leaders Mrs Ethel Christensen Mrs Alle Morrill and Wre Virllg Morrill headed demonstrations while Darrell Godrich led the boys. Pins were awarded by County Farm Agent Peterson and Roy Coupe provided electric lighting for the event. Excellent exhibits were chosen for the County Club Fair in Vernal this week.

Local Indians Will Dance At State Fair

A group of Ute and Ouray agency Indians traveled to Salt Lake City to perform at the State Fair. Harold Davis and Zelph Calder will lead demonstrations of Indian sports and native dances, showcasing traditional dress and the virility of the Indian race amid centuries of contact with Whites.

Glines Family Narrow Escape As Car Overturns

East Sunday afternoon on Victory highway Mr and Mrs Andrew Herring and their Glines family were driving south when Wallace Siddeway heading north attempted to pass Roscoe Hall. Siddeway clipped the buggy causing it to overturn. Hall’s car was struck as Siddeway swerved. The buggy was demolished and Mrs Herring and two children were slightly injured. The incident occurred near the Howard Woolley residence.

Star Ol Drill Shipped for Dog Valley Structure Near Vernal

A Star drilling unit bought by the Matd Elfen Oil Co from Pocatello Idaho is destined to drill in Dog Valley about seven miles west of Vernal. One load of tools is in ground and casing for a 370 foot hole is being shipped with ten inch casing. The company expects to start drilling immediately at the Sur Permit site as road repairs continue near the project.

Penny Stores to Open Vernal Branch Around March Fifteenth

Representatives of the IC Penny Stores Company plan a Vernal store opening about March 15 in the former Atorm Building. Ray Duke of Heber City will manage the Vernal branch, moving his family to the area this year. D P Fir-make of Nephi and J L Firmaga of American Fork accompany the delegation. The Vernal store will be the twenty fifth Utah outlet for the chain, with 745 stores nationwide. The cash-only stock will consist of dry goods and gentlemen's furnishings.
