Joab Collier Dies in Uintah County Bee Chief’s Death
Joab Collier died at his daughter Mrs May Carpenter’s home from heart trouble on a Wednesday evening after a brief illness. A pioneer and leading bee keeper in Uintah County, he helped develop the valley and boost the bee industry. Born July 23, 1855 in Devonshire England, he lived 29 years in Ashley Valley and held church and civil roles including deputy state bee inspector and secretary of Uintah Mountain Beekeepers Association. Survived by his wife Theodacola Keeler Collier predeceased him. sixteen children were born, fourteen living: Amy Gardiner Jos Collier Edwin Collier Mre May Carpenter Walter Collier Mra Clara Richards Midgley Mra Mattie Chivera Mra Nokia Wicharda Theodore Raymond Frank Carl Mabel and John Collier. Funeral at Naples ward meeting house Saturday at 2 p.m.

One notice says 1000 county men are to fill questionnaires while Ulstah is asked to provide five men to leave Vernal on October 7 for training. Five class one men are available from August 24 registration. Twelve men from Ulstah will go to Fort Logan, Colorado from Sept 30 for a five day period. Uintah Telephone under government control and new charges
The government has taken over the Uintah Telephone system and barred rate changes from being submitted to the Postmaster General. Installation charges will begin September 1, 1918, with rates tied to current monthly charges. A moving charge will cover labor and material costs.
