Geologic Survey Supports Buck Pasture Reservoir

A detailed field report concludes the Buck Pasture basin can hold water and the damsite is solid. No fault line is found across the canyon, and glacial erosion shapes the small escarpment. Sufficient suitable material exists nearby, with an estimate of 140000 yards needed. The reservoir would impound about 350 acre feet from a 7,800 acre drainage, with an 8 to 110 second feet diversion canal possible to feed Ashley Valley.

County Agriculture Maintains Growth Amid Drought Damage

The county report notes damage to food and feed crops yet credits the Agricultural Conservation program with boosting livestock feed. From 1939 to 1944 agricultural output rose 27 percent while labor fell, and consumers can still buy more food than in 1928 or 1920. Wages rose about 50 percent, helping offset higher prices.

Stock loading corral to be built at Jensen

The Vernal CCC camp and Ashley Valley stock men plan a loading and separating corral at Jensen about a mile below the bridge. B F Moore, livestock agent of Steamboat Signings, representing the Denver and Salt Lake Railroad, says $200 will cover materials and construction by the CCC camp, with total corral cost around $200. When US 40 is paved, most local stock is expected to be shipped via Craig to Denver and eastern markets. The project is in cooperation with the ECC.
