Business leaders from Utah toured Vernal and Jensen visiting the Dinosaur quarry as Prof. Karl Douglass shared fossil stories. A dinner and dance followed with remarks by Vernal officials and Salt Lake trade leaders praising cooperation and road and railroad needs to unlock regional resources.

Meeting for Valley Water Users Monday

Orson W Israelsen irrigation engineer from Agricultural College of Utah will summarize three years of Ashley Valley water resources and storage studies at a Monday 7:30 pm meeting in the county courthouse. Aged Church Veteran Visits Uintah Quadruple Cities

George A Hicks aged 88 from Spanish Fork makes his first visit to Bagin Vernal and Uintah. He recalls seeing Prophet Joseph Smith in Nauvoo and serving in the Walker Indian War. Former Salt Lake Tribune and Spanish Fork papers worker. He plans to visit relatives in Roosevelt after the trip.

Bartlett Family Relocates to Price From Vernal

Ashley Bartlett and his wife with children Ethlyn Rulon June and Morris left Vernal for Price after selling their home to W S Henderson. Bartlett, a Bates stores salesman in Provo, has been a familiar figure in Vernal. The family will reside in Price for an undetermined period amid well wishes from friends and involvement in local activities. They departed Tuesday morning.

Miss Jorgensen to Represent Vernal Auxiliary at State Legion Meet

Miss Louise Jorgensen, Vernal Legion Auxiliary president, has been chosen as committee chairman on Unit Activities for the American Legion state convention in Logandate held September 21 22 and 23. Her report will outline a constructive program to boost community activities and strengthen the unit as a local asset and national force for good. Other chairmen include Finance resolutions permanent organization Americanism hospital and welfare legislation and publicity.

Mrs Ashton Falls Ill While Returning Home in Ford

Mrs. Ashton became sick on the road from Salt Lake City while traveling with Leslie Ashton, Clair and Lowe Ashton, and a new Ford. After a bearing burned out on the Lexington near Daniel's Canyon, helpers aided pushing the overheated car. Mrs. Ashton fainted and received care for hours, then medical help arrived in Duchesne and Roosevelt, with she remaining there several days before returning home Tuesday.

Four Robbers Steal Car in Craig

Four men described by Charles Tucker drove into Craig in a Willyss Knight car with Utah plates aiming to trade for a better one. Sheriff Hudson seized the vehicle after a dispute over ownership, then the quartet reportedly raided a Milner store after nightfall, stole $300, cash and goods, and were apprehended at Hot Sulphur Springs with the car and loot. Authorities link them to prior thefts in Myton and a Red Front garage glass breakage in another town.

Seed Plant at Roosevelt Rush Under Peppard Plan

Work on the J. G. Peppard Seed Company plant at Roosevelt progresses rapidly under founder J. G. Peppard Sr. The 64 by 100 foot plant will include offices and a warehouse. Frames up, concrete floor laid, roof partly on, and milling machinery arriving from Michigan. Alfalfa seed is larger than prior varieties, with field crews and harvests showing strong yields. Growers anticipate expansion as Uintah Basin leads in alfalfa seed production aided by the new plant and nationwide advertising for Uintah Basin Dee Hive Brand Alfalfa.

Prof and Mrs Earl Douglass entertained at their Jensen home Wednesday night in honor of Prof A B Coggeshall and Prof O A Peterson who left Thursday for the Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh. Craig Fair Draws Huge Crowd and Wild West Show

An immense Craig crowd attended the Crate fair and wild west show last week per Charles Ticker of Red Front Garage who ferried Vernaltes. Hare racing and the show drew praise. Mr. Tucker dispersed Uintah county fair posters in cars and ran out of bills. A Craig delegation is expected at the fair.

The Vernal Band boys return and will be honored with a welcome home dance at the Orpheus Saturday night. They financed their Yellowstone park advertising trip at personal expense and deserve a large crowd.

Fossil Hunt Lecture Draws Crowd at Vogue

Prof A 8 Coggeshall of the Carnegie Institute Pittsburgh lectures on how big game was hunted in rocks. Slides and moving pictures illustrated the fossil gathering at Jensen as locals and visitors, including children, listen intently to the detailed, engaging account of a prehistoric hunt.

Fish Hatchery Roof Nearing Completion in Uintah Basin

D H Madsen Utah fish and game commissioner announced a Uintah Basin hatchery at White Rocks will be roofed soon with construction led by George Cox. Local carpenters and district wardens, plus department men, work on site while a point of fingerling trout was moved from Springville. A fawn delivery incident occurred with no legal breaches, and two fawn does will be used for breeding.

Uiitah Academy Opens With Large Enrollment

Monday the Unitaly academy opened for registration and Tuesday instruction, the largest classes in the Senior high greeted the teachers in the school’s history. Over 120 enrolled on the first day across three cities. Enrollment grew from Reservation towns with several pupils from Daggett County. Freshman year is not taught at the academy this year.
