In the First Judicial District Court of Utah Territory at Provo the case Tootle Hosen & Company versus Lorenzo Hatch leads to a sheriff sale at the Vernal County Court House on October 5, 1894. The sale exposes Lorenzo Hatch’s real estate in Vernal to satisfy a December 23 1890 judgment with cash terms.
In Magnolia Arkansas near Kayesville Clinton Thomas poisoned select melons to stop thefts from his crop. His son Felix George Bridges and Jacob Muir died after eating the fruit. Bridges shot Thomas dead after learning of the killings. Bridges escaped justice.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports plans for the execution of Enoch Davis near Provo with tents set along the railway, witnesses limited to law officers a physician and two ministers, and possibly a few newspaper reporters as deputy marshals. The plan calls for Davis to be brought from the penitentiary and shot dead before the tents.
At the Colorado and Utah Canning company a tomato season strike erupted after a wage cut from five to three cents per five gallons and then to 24 cents. More than fifty workers walked out adopting union style tactics while awaiting a settlement. Local unionized workers press for concessions as management stands firm.
Edwin W Lanier issues a pamphlet detailing Utah wealth from Uintah and Uncompahgre reservations. Mr Senior organises a Denver to Salt Lake excursion during the fair and conference, aiming to attract capital and support Utah statehood.
Notice from Uintah County assessor W H Gagan dated Sept 10 1894 appoints R S Collett as deputy collector of taxes. Collett can be found at L Johnston & Cos office to receive and receipt for any taxes paid. Vernal Utah.
Bids will be received at Vernal Roller Mills office until 10 o clock Tuesday Sept 25 1894 for hauling coal from the companys mine near the old Reynolds mine for the ensuing year. Award to lowest responsible bidder who must enter a contract to furnish coal as needed with hauling paid in mill products. For details contact H S Collett Mner at P O box 104 Vernal Utah.
