Trailways petitions the Utah Public Service Commission to add Vernal daily mail deliveries from Bast Lake to Vernal and extend service from Salt Lake via US 40 to the Colorado line. The plan also seeks authority to carry property goods on routes from Price to Castle Gate and Duchesne to Vernal, including return trips.
John Stagg Central elementary school principal told Vernal Lions about 2720 enrolled pupils and 91 percent attendance among 77 locals. He urged parent cooperation and noted a classroom with nine of forty-two members present.

Limited pipeline facilities from Rangely reduce daily oil production. Wells were shut or constrained as existing pipe lines to refineries in Colorado and Wyoming cannot handle the output. Company plans to reduce throughput to 20 barrels per day per well, with a field capacity near 37,000 barrels daily. Seventy wells completed, six over half producing near peak rates.
Jurors were being selected at the county courthouse for the second rape trial of John David Hamon, 28, from California, charged with rape. The case involves a 1-year-old, with the alleged crime occurring after a trip from Vernal to Beach.
Uintah county growers were announced this week for the Utah State Fair crop exhibit to run 16 to 22. County agricultural agent William C. Whitaker prepared the display, the first Uintah entry in 10 years. Ray Lilenquist owner and manager of Inland Freight Lines announced in a recent Ver nal that he purchased the Staring eengenre en company and the Easter! ’tah Tran om company. Wake City reported the Inland Freight Lines trucks are leased to the Storing Transportation Company and are being run on the Salt Lake City route to keep pace for a short time.

Harvey Self, manager of Vernal Save A Nickel, buys Weeks Corner market at 99 South Fifth West to operate Save A Nickel Market No. 2. He plans to remove partitions, redecorate, add a meat department, and run a drive in market with stock by Alvin E. Weeks and Elmer Eaton. Staff includes Harvey Kuleht, Lawrence Eoten, Mrs J C Anderson, Bruce Gale, and Beulah Redding. Both stores to offer complete food service and low cash and carry prices. markets are unionized.
The Vernal district court heard the case of Moore accused of rape after a highway assault on a young girl near High Way 40. The jury, led by foreman John Bulat, returned a guilty verdict despite defense arguments claiming bias and questioning eyewitness testimony. Sentencing, set by the court, awaits further proceedings with potential clemency considerations noted.
Six men pleaded guilty in city court to being drunk at the wheel or intoxicated offenses during the week. One man posted a $25 bond, another paidOUT fines, and several received totals such as 87.50 and 50 for offenses including running a stop sign and driving without proper footwear. Names include Clive Caravera Caldwell Summers and Alvin Peterson among others.
Nemal's office of the Mountain States Telephone reports remodeling to add a video room for a five position switchboard and a commercial room, plus a new furnace, store room, and enlarged cable vault.
