Hay Fire Destroys 1700 Bales Near Lapoint Area
About 1700 bales of hay valued at 1200 were destroyed on the Clifton Mackford property west of Lapoint Saturday around 6 pm in a fire started by children playing matches. Vernal Fire Department arrived and had to push over a barn to access the blaze. The fire was kept from spreading to another stack and a nearby home. Mr and Mrs Backford were deer hunting at the time.

Final rites were held at Glines Ward chapel for Gareth Woodruff Perry 15 fatally shot during a deer hunt in Hook Cliff Mountains 74 miles south of Vernal. Survivors include parents Arnold and Chrystal Perry, brother Dallas, sister Mrs Allen Richardson, and grandparents Eugene Woodruff. The accident occurred when the rifle discharged as the youth set it down during hunting.

Myton Boy Slain By Older Brother in Gun Accident
A 16 year old Myton youth, Erastus Lamar Winn, was killed instantly Tuesday at about 5pm when a 3030 rifle held by his older brother accidentally discharged in the family living room. The shooter, Albert Winn, 18, believed the gun was empty. the incident was ruled accidental by Precinct Justice Orin Swain with an inquest including James Fall, Leonard Ferguson, Clarence Chidester, and a Utah Fish and Game Warden.

Maeser Hanter, a hunter from Vernal area, was lost Tuesday night in Hook Clift Mountains about 90 miles southeast of Vernal while deer hunting. Fostered by friend Christen Sen, who habitually carries matches, Hanter kept two fires alive and spent the night safe between Wem. He had no coat and was found with his companion Lynn Nichols near Noosevelt.
