Mineralogy and Geology Classes Begin at Uintah High

Under Utah University extension, Dr. Owen I Horsefal directs two classes at Uintah High School starting Monday night. Dr. Boyle offers mineralogy at 5 30 pm and geology at 7 pm, each worth two extension credits. Last year 61 students enrolled. strong turnout signals growing interest.

Contracts Set to Finish U S 40 from Craig to Utah Line

The Craig Empire Courier reports progress on US 40 from Craig to the Utah line. Contracts for gravel surfacing extend from Cross Mountain Colorado toward Maybell and will cross the sand hills west of Maybell. Completion is required by Sept. 1, 1937. The project spans about 15.9 miles in two units, with government funding and local support.

Ashley Forest to Start Improvement Projects Across Regions

Ashley Forests in Utah, Idaho, Nevada and Wyoming will receive WPA appropriations totaling 470,905 to fund work from October 1 to January 15. Region 4 forest service officer T. V. Pearson announced the plan covering fire protection, forest culture, range improvements, surveys and disease control. Funds allocated include 614,5 in Utah and 1658 in Wyoming with 1920 relief workers to be used and overhead capped at 214.

Kidd Bound Over to District Court in Burglary Case

Alfred Kidd appeared at a preliminary hearing before Justice Charles 5. Carter on Thursday at 11 a.m. He waived hearing and was bound over to district court on a $1500 bond for felony second degree burglary. The complainant was Vernal Milling Company.

Ballard Farmer Owings Found Dead Monday Morning

Prominent Ballard farmer John Franklin Owings was found dead on a Monday morning in Vernal. The 1864 birth date places him in Newport Pennsylvania origins with surviving relatives Vertor Owings and Mrs Laura Pressler. He lived on land in Roosevelt Independenc e Gusher and Altonah and had previously worked in Leadville Red Cup and Steamboat. The body was prepared at Swain Funeral Home and shipped to Newport for funeral services.

Wilma Annie Angerson, 13, daughter of Stephen Anderson of Tridell, died at local hospital from heart disease after a lingering illness. Her mother Elizabeth Boren Anderson had died six years earlier. She is survived by thirteen brothers and sisters. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Tridel.

Deer Hunter Killed on Taylor Mountain During Hunt

Lawrence Burton age 33 was found shot while deer hunting near Taylor Mountain. Initial reports say the bullet injury came from a gun accident as Burke and Jenkins investigated a distant shot. Burton died at the scene after being located sitting on a log. He was a Vernal resident, employed as a mechanic, and survived by his widow Alice Kanistanoux and two children Hilly and Bobby, plus his father Harry Burton and siblings LeRoy and Afabe. Funeral services planned for Sunday at 2 p.m.
