Look Not Upon the Wine and the Narrow Path
Edwin J. Becker, a 30 year old once a newspaper writer, was sentenced in 1946 to 22 to 18 years in Bordentown State Prison for signing checks without funds. He later served time in Sing Sing, Canada, and Buffalo before reforming, writing stories for magazines, and earning parole eligibility. His case is used to argue against harsh religiously framed scorn for the straight and narrow path.
