Rain disrupted early fair setup but by midweek conditions improved and Saturday added to the program. Community exhibits were the strongest yet with livestock, poultry, and standout Boys and Girls clubs displays in agriculture sewing and canning. Judges praised home economics arts and the overall hall, with notable displays from Varnal, Ashley, Leeton Bennett, Fort Duchesne, and the Weat division Indian bead work.

Mail Driver In Auto Crash Tuesday
Richard Jensen rural route No 1 mail cart demolished in a Tuesday evening collision with Dr H E Rich who crossed into the cart from the east. Jensen escaped with a lame hip while Rich blamed mud on lamps and windshield and poor street lighting. The broken vinegar jug was a noted casualty of the wreck.

F. Widman president and A F C Meyers secretary of Watson Oil Company of St Louis spent two days in Vernal with H Braun of Guthrie Oklahoma. They inspected Watsons oil shale holdings near Watson totaling 6000 acres of patented shale land and additional claims awaiting patent. They returned Thursday.

Purebred Herefords Displayed at Lone Tree County Fair
Wiley S Collett and Orin Collett brought 118 registered Herefords to the Lone Tree Wyoming county fair. Joseph K E Marx of Lapolat bought some, a farmer at Fort Duchesne purchased a few, and Olson Livestock Co of Ephraim Utah bought most. The Collett brothers retained herd numbers and shift to grade Rambouillet sheep at Lone Tree ranch.

Maeser Galf Club Wins Calf Gift From Uintah Bank
The Maeser Calf Club of Uintah county received a Jersey calf from Uintah State Bank to stimulate dairy farming. The calf, valued at about 250 dollars, was selected from a top Jersey herd in Provo and was reelected by an Agricultural College expert in Logan. The club of 11 members also has promising heifer calves, purebred and registered, forming a foundation for a future dairy herd.

Alva Zufelt of Davis ward reported after a dance his horse tied at a hitching rack disappeared. Early Wednesday two Maeser boys saw an Indian dismount, remove a purse and fancy bridle, and send the horse off. Zufelt recovered the horse Monday. the bridle remained tied to the saddle. The thief likely intended a short-term concealment rather than a permanent theft.

Thursday morning about 12 miles east of Duchesne John Young the driver of a first class mail truck smelled smoke and found a fire in the rear of the vehicle. There was little damage to the mail and Young resides in Duchesne.

Ernest Eaton Hurt Saving Boy From Injury
Ernest Eaton on a rodeo horse attempted to head off a Wild Bucking bronc as it dragged a young Brewer boy toward a barb wire fence. Eaton fell, suffering bruises and temporary paralysis, while the boy remained unharmed. The bucking horse also injured its shoulder. another rider Cliff Ivie broke ribs in the same rough event.
