Funeral services were held at Maeser chapel for Arch Jenkins 67 who died at St Marks Hospital on September 25 after a lingering illness. The service featured prayers, music by a quartet, and remarks by Victor Bingham and others. Interment followed at Verna Memorial Park.
Funeral services conducted Monday at the Second Ward chapel for Lilly Ruple Evans 59 who died last Thursday in Ogden of an ailment. A ladies quartet sang Nearer My God To Thee. other musical numbers included Wonder ful Mother of Mine and Going Home. Interment was at Vernal Manorial Park with grave dedication by Warren Richardson. Mrs Evans, born February 14 1888 in Vernal, was married to Hod Ruple and later to Joel A Evans. she leaves two daughters Mrs GE Untermann of Jensen and Mrs Carl Staley of Vernal.
Local residents spent time visiting in Roosevelt and Vernal with several staying overnight or commuting. Notables include Mrs Leota Jorgensen and Gladys Young visiting, and Victor Bolte returning from Roosevelt after three months away. Mrs Nelson from Los Angeles arrived for a two week visit with her mother Mrs Rople in Clearfield.
The Evans family thanks everyone for kindness during Lilly Auple Evans illness, death, and burial. Special thanks to speakers and all who helped lighten the burden and for flowers music and words of sympathy from Joel A Evans and others.
A Saturday safety meeting conducted by the State Safety Council convened at the Roosevelt Municipal Building. Uintah and Duchesne Counties sheriffs marshals and justices of the peace attended to address rising accidents and urge stricter law enforcement. Vernon area officials including Henderson Reece and Sammy Hatch of the Highway Patrol were present.
