Valley wide water system outlined for growing valley
A Vernal Chamber of Commerce meeting explained a valley wide water plan to serve double the present population with culinary water for the valley and winter stock water for outlying areas. A two million gallon storage reservoir near Maeser cemetery would replace the current half million gallon tank and prevent summer draining. Feasibility studies by three firms found the plan practicable. Estimated cost is 1 1,100,000 with $350,000 from the Bureau of Reclamation and the remainder funded by a bond issue paid over twenty years. Water would reach Vernal Maeser Gines Naples Ashley and Davis. The $350,000 covers winter stock water lines to valley farms. The plan was discussed at a National Reclamation convention where Vernal’s role was highlighted.
