Deer Hunt Results Highlight Strong Season and Prospects

About 2900 deer were killed in the season just past according to game warden Jack Boten. Main checking stations logged 4 bucks and 337 does, with 1429 deer from Diamonds Mountain Taylor Mountain and Blue Mountain roads and Book Clift road in Ouray country. Hunters crowded the mountains as favorable weather boosted feed and access.

Fire destroys roof at Asher Merkley home

Fire at Asher Merkley farmer and stockbreeder home 144 miles west of Vernal caused extensive roof and ceiling damage estimated around 23000 dollars. Fire fought in cold wind with new Uintah County engine. furniture mostly saved with neighbor aid and quick fire response.

School Board Election Arranged for District 3

The Utah district plans an election for a School Board seat from District 3 including Maeser Glines and Mountain Dell. Incumbent Carl R. Richens of Maeser. Nominations due by Nov 21. Election set for Dec 6 at Glines chapel Maeser school or Mountain Dell home later. Board will seek bids to haul water to schools not on the water system.

Rangely oil field begins a test repressuring program using natural gas injection. Wells chosen include California Fee 65 and Texas Co. Union Pacific 5721 due to isolation. Uranium Discovery Near Vernal Hints Plant Possibility

Mr. Snow reports fair uranium deposits 1 mile east of Vernal on U.S. 40. A 190 foot shaft is being sunk to determine depth of ore with a Texas sponsor unnamed. Early rock tests showed low grade ore and raw ore values around 13.50 per ton, with refinements expected as drilling continues.

Green River Bridge Upends In Gusty Weather

A historic over Green River suspension bridge near Brown's Park failed in strong winds, forcing locals to travel an extra 100 miles. The fragile 100 yard span swung 80 feet above the river, passing cars with loose boards and exposed cables.
