Willard Day Urges Large Utah Road Program
Willard Day, Utah road commissioner member from Roosevelt, told Vernal Lions Club that spending 50 to 100 million dollars on Utah highways now would save automobile owners costly maintenance and attract tourist dollars. He argued dirt roads cost more to maintain than building good roads, noted hazardous Daniels carry on road sections, and contrasted cost per mile on peer roads versus surfaced highways. Day cited Uintah County’s 2000 registered cars paying high operating costs and said long-term savings justify road improvements.
