Frost Prevention by Radiation and Wind Principles
Weather signs for frost include a clear sky and temperatures at or below 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Experts say frost forms when earth radiation is abundant but return radiation is low, and a moderate wind mixes warmer air aloft with surface air to prevent frost. Heavy lower clouds reflect heat back to earth, staying warmer and reducing frost risk.
