The Citizens ticket backed R C Cooper and O iic H Sowards for Vernal city offices but failed to secure most seats. The Peoples ticket carried nearly all its candidates except the mayor and a four year term limit issue remained unresolved.
A New York woman sustained injuries when her car overturned after an accident on a rural road. The incident left her hospitalized with suspected fractures.
Armistice Day ceremonies Saturday begin with a parade at 10 15 followed by a program in the Uintah High Auditorium at 10 45. Music by the band and a 30 second silence for dead soldiers. Lions club screenings in Technicolor showcased local scenery including Green Lakes Big Brush Creek, river gorge, and the Dinrwar Monument. The effort highlighted building progress and eye sight fund raising received $100 from the Sight Conservation committee to aid eyeglasses. Mitchell, reassigned to Uintah Basin, notes the area’s appeal.
About 700 pheasant hunters gathered for a five day season at a local area. The list of participants named Mr and Mrs R A Webster, A Hilly, Ed Everett, Tortny of Heber, and other residents from Salt Lake to Vernal. An early morning gas explosion at Calder Creamery office injured Charley James, burned his arms and face, and knocked William Cook down with minor injuries. General manager Onider, nearby, helped rush James to hospital as firefighters contained the blaze. The blast broke windows and set the office roof alight, likely ignited by gas from an uncapped pipe connected to a disconnected radiant heater.

Entomologist Dr James I Hambleton of the Washington DC department of agriculture told Utah Beekeepers Association at Salt Lake that bee extinction would harm agriculture and fruit production. He urged an immediate investigation into losses suffered by Utah operators, noting multiple causes with the chief being widespread use of crop spraying poisons.
The President of the Board of Education, whose term ends in December, announces re election candidacy after three years on the board. Mr West, a former Vernal Seminary principal, holds a masters degree earned in 1938 and has focused on the district finances and state funding. The five year term election will be held December 6 in the Ashley Vernal precinct.
Bertha E Meredith eldest daughter of George and Martha Newberry born November 22 1860 in Lennox Pennsylvania passed away at her Vernal Utah home She moved with her parents to Nebraska then Fruita Colorado later settling in Utah She married William Douglas at 17 and had a daughter Lillian who died in 1928 She lived in Vernal after the Utah settlement opening was a longtime city librarian active in clubs and churches She leaves two brothers two sisters grandchildren great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Congregational Church with Rev James Haliwood officiating The interment followed at Vernal Memorial Park with a large list of pallbearers and floral tributes.
Plans to establish a CCC camp in the Ashley Nation forest area north of Vernet are under way in spring. Supervisor A L Taylor led a committee of stockmen and a Lions member to inspect possible sites for road and trail work, fences, corrals, reservoirs and general range improvement with Ranger Glen Lamabert accompanying the party.
Grace Byreholia, a Ayrshire cow from Douglassville Pennsylvania, toured the Ogden show as part of a two day stop in America. The cow, famed for her udder and long lifetime milk production, has produced a large family and attracted widespread attention for her type and efficiency.
Apostle Widtsoe urged Piatt Basin farmers to hire lands and adopt new crops to raise returns. He spoke on Basin problems irrigation water and low yields, endorsing soybeans as a profitable, versatile crop. He noted a 643 attendance at the Sunday conference and urged land use reform for a stable farming future.
Uintah defeats Brigham Young night school Wildcats 18 to 7 at Provo in six man football. Ned Welker Walker Jr. sparked a first quarter score with a 2 yard rush and a fumble return. Loynell Harding connected on a second quarter TD pass as Ted Taylor and Bruce Dahling led the Wildcats comeback before Uintah closed strong with a 75 yard fumble return by Joe Urie for a Ute score. First aid courses for area bus drivers are offered by Uintah and Uinta high schools under Dr J W Stevens with sixteen drivers already certified.
A stowaway with a complex past becomes part of Vernal CCC Camp 41. Born in the United States but raised across Poland Germany and Denmark he learned English aboard a ship to Boston where immigration officials confirmed his American birth. He later rode freight to Toledo then Detroit seeking work finding English-speaking friends and interpreters among his new camp community.
