Salt Lake City faces smallpox outbreaks in Park City and Kimberly with dozens of new cases. Street railways raise wages 2 cents and drivers strike for higher pay and shorter hours while local crews plan a July telegraph and road improvements.

A Colorado flood sweeps through Pueblo and surrounding areas washing out the Colorado and Southern railroad line and damaging the Pueblo hospital cellar. The Rio Grande section house at Buttes station is destroyed and several tent dwellers narrowly escape. Three steel bridges are washed away and homes and other tents are carried off. Two women cling to a tree for hours amid roaring waters.
A mob of about 200 men lynched and burned Dudley Morspan, a Black man, near Lansing after he confessed to assaulting Mrs. McKee. The vigilante act began with chained execution and continued with burning ties and burning eyes, while women witnessed from a crowded scene.
Nelson Pease Bond, 19, of Burlington, a freshman at the University of Vermont, drowned at Plattsburg after a pursuit by five sophomores. Bond reportedly fled attackers, leaped into the lake at Wilcox dock, and sank before rescuers with an improvised boat could reach him. The incident stemmed from a class prank gone wrong.
Cairo dispatch to the London Daily Express says rebels near Mocha in Yemen's Vilayet have wiped out a Turkish battalion. The Mocha governor is reportedly hostage as rebels gain deserters from Turkish troops in the area.
Reports say a tornado moved through South Carolina Monday, causing fatalities and widespread destruction. Between Jonesville and Santuc the storm wrecked about fifty houses and cabins, with several residents killed, including three African Americans.
About twenty five counterfeit dollar pieces from the Cheyenne batch were discovered in a coal car at Grand Island Nebraska. The coins were allegedly secreted in Cheyenne when police began a pursuit. Two men tied to the Cheyenne scheme, Rawlice and Laramie, were ordered to appear in United States court.
Ferdinand Barnett, a Chicago assistant district attorney, predicts a coming revolt by ten million African Americans against lynching. He argues lynch law in the South has made blacks feel outlaw, noting 2,500 Black men women and children shot or burned in the last fifteen years without trial as proof the law offers no protection.
At the annual New York county W C T U convention a delegate read figures on criminal ancestry. A woman with undisclosed name, said to have died in 1827, reportedly left 800 descendants. Of these, seven hundred were convicted criminals, and thirty seven were murderers executed for their crimes.

Abe Whiterop was executed by a mob of over 100 men in Paris Missouri. He confessed to killing William Grow during a land dispute. The victim’s father and brother helped escort the condemned man to the bridge where the hanging occurred.
Edilça, a pliant spiritualist believer in soul transmigration, died in Lisbon and bequeathed her entire estate to a rooster. She had a fowl house built and ordered servants to heed the bird as if it were her late husband. Relatives argued over the will, but one heir resolved the matter by claiming the rooster as next of kin after the bird was killed.
About sixty Bulgarian revolutionists raided the Rocmelia area near Malesh Planinno and clashed with Turkish troops on May 29. Six Bulgarians were killed and seven wounded as Turkish forces also sustained casualties.
Nels Johnson, a Chicago politician, fatally shot his sister-in-law Mra C. J. Gullakson who he blamed for his separation from his wife. After the shooting he killed himself with a gunshot to the head. Johnson had been intoxicated during the incident.

The House passed a bill aligning state statutes of limitations as a defense in land patent actions under the May 19 18 treaty with the Shawnee. Contests in the House included John J Fowler's challenge to Charles J from North Carolina and John J Lontz against Me Llomphina in Ohio. Senate action noted an independence celebration for Cubs and a Rochambeau statue ceremony in Washington May 24. Adjournment plans were adjusted to attend the ceremony.
