California oil firm reports new Utah gusher near Vernal

Reports from R D White in Denver say Gusher No 1 near Vernal Utah is not yet flowing oil but will be bailed out with an estimated 20 barrels per hour. The California company subsidiary of Standard Oil of California has five Utah discoveries with this one showing potential as a pumper at about 480 barrels daily.

Funeral services for Justus V. Ray Hatch were held Monday at 2 pm in the First Ward chapel with Bishop William B. Wal conducting. Prayer at the home was by President Jesse A. Haws. Pontha Calder, Vernal postmaster for 15 years, plans retirement June 30 amid age and service rules. He arrived in Vernal in 1930s with horses and buggies, and will end a long tenure under post office regulations requiring retirement at age 70 after 15 years of service.
