Under ICC action the Uintah Railway line between Mack Cole and Watson Utah may be abandoned after May 17. Traffic has largely ceased since trucking gilsonite to Craig Cole began December 19, leaving only one train weekly and no revenue, with steep grades on both slopes illustrating harsh operating conditions. A new auto road right of way via Baxter Pass to Drake Watson and beyond is considered, with the line reverting to government upon abandonment.

Vernal’s Main Street filled with three high school bands Uintah Alterra and Ft Duchesne central drum corps and a rhythm band from Ft Duchesne led the Health Day parade at 939 am. Floats bore health slogans such as Castle of Health Maeser Nursery School and Worn of Plenty. Patrolman Jack Young led officials and a color guard as approximately three thousand people watched the two school buses and marching students in colorful costumes.

Singing included If we could see beyond today and Oh My Father Wonderful Mother of Mine Softly and Tenderly Jesus is Calling. Interment at Vernal Memorial Park with rites by George Slaugh. Pallbearers listed. James Fayre James was born March 17 1872 in Neff County to David and Ellabeth Wells Fayre. She died in Vernal May 14.

Funeral Services Held for Chas II Morrison
Funeral services were conducted Sunday at the Bennion Funeral Home for Charles S. Morrison age 66. He died after a lingering illness at his home in Vernal on Friday May 12. Morrison, born in Liverpool July 6 1853, married Mary Berry in 1886 and they moved from England to Vernal in 1904. He is survived by four sons Sydney, Charles, Ben, and Noel Morrison, all of Vernal, plus his wife and other relatives. The service featured hymns by Mrs May Calder and Mrs May Tarrersen with speaker Walter Ayram. Funeral home arrangements were by Sidrow Morrison family attendance noted. In attendance were relatives from Mortrose Cole and others visiting Vernal.

A Roosevelt area crash on a Tuesday evening damaged a dwelling. A car driven by Bill Strick struck a rear wheel and tore onto a house, injuring four occupants.
