Vernal Chamber backs revised city license tax plan

The Vernal City Chamber of Commerce authorized B Frank Ward to present a plan to the Vernal Council for a new license tax based on annual gross sales at 80 cents per $1 000 with a $20 minimum on the first 25 000 and a 10 percent early payment deduction. The plan, discussed after a survey of merchants and nine Utah cities, aims to update the license ordinance and assess fairness and feasibility.

Uintah Basin Junior Livestock Show Opens June 1

The Uintah Basin Junior Livestock Show and Sale begins June 1 at the County Fair Grounds in Vernal. Former School Executive to Receive Doctor's Degree

H Grant Vest, longtime Logan City Schools superintendent, will earn a doctorate from Stanford University on May 18. His research, Capital Outlay and the Foundation Program of Education in Utah School Districts, also supports a statewide study for the Utah State Native Council on school building needs and financing. Vest, a 1933 BYU graduate, led Ver nal Seminary then Uintah County schools before moving to Logan in 1947. He earned a master's degree from BYU in 1938.

Work Progresses On Union High School Construction

Gilles of the Springville firm, contractor for Union High School, reports the project remains on schedule to open in September. Superintendent H. M.
