Colton Pro Pushes Federal Oversight of Public Range
Washington May 3 A new bill proposed jointly by the Interior Department and Forest Service and introduced by Representative Colton would place unreserved public range administration under the secretary of the interior. The plan would create grazing districts with local advisory boards, ten year leases with adjustable fees, and allocate funds to range improvement, state school and road funds, and the federal treasury. Provisions allow adding lands to national forests by president action on interior secretary recommendation, or adding grazing lands within forest limits to grazing districts under this act.
