Drowning Second Fatality On Flaming Gorge Dam Project
The second fatality on the Flaming Gorge Dam project occurred Saturday when supervisor Charles Edwin Terelg, 37, drowned while trying to recover bridge decking from the Green River. The body was recovered Tuesday. Terelg, of Verna, was riding a 64 foot decking section east of Linwood damaged by ice flows. A crew of six attempted to remove the decking with a bulldozer attached cable as river currents thwarted rescue efforts. The first fatality, Tony Simon, 26, died Friday climbing canyon campsite walls. Terelg was born August 22, 1922 in Sulphur Oklahoma, married to Virginia Eagan. Continued on page 8.

Bridge Repair Pile Driving In High Gear
Pile driving to replace a 100 foot section of a belt spanning Green River between Dutch John and Wood is proceeding at a record pace after ice jam damage Tuesday. Workers are ferried across as cars pass, and the damaged bridge, a vital link to Flaming Gorge dam work, blocks access for 55 junior high and high school pupils from Manila. Walton of the US Bureau of Reclamation says a catwalk across the opening may be ready by midweek for student and project worker use.

April Showers Sales Spark Vernal Promotion
April showers are expected in Vernal Thursday through Saturday April 7 to 9 with stores offering bargains across many fields as the Chamber of Commerce promotes a three day sales event. A separate Vernal Chamber meeting featured Ashley National Forest Supervisor Andrew J. McConkie outlining a major recreation and development plan for the Flaming Gorge area including timber, grazing, and new campgrounds and ramps with a half million dollar initial program over three years. The plan anticipates 66 camps, four boating ramps, overlooks, a lodge, and road extensions to support timber and game access in the high elevations. The Forest Service and Soil Conservation Service surveys show water outlook near normal with rainfall and streamflow similar to last year, guiding farmers and ranchers for next year’s plans. There will be a church meeting for bishops and ward clerks inviting all families to a Saturday evening gathering.
