Power Firm Asks Utah PLC for 10% Rate Hike
Utah Power and Tight Company applied to the Public Service Commission of Utah for permission to raise electric rates about 10 percent for all customer classes. President E. M. Nauchton said this is the first request in 10 years and that the increase would cost the average domestic customer about 2 cents per day. The company seeks a hearing promptly, claiming current rates do not yield a just and reasonable 18.5 percent return and notes expanded facilities since 1845 to meet rising demand.

Child Slips Trigger Two Car Crash In Vernal
A child slipping from the front seat caused a two car collision at 11 20 a m Monday on West 1st North near Safeway in Vernal. Vehicles a 1940 Ford wagon driven by Frances Wall Price 27 of Glines and a 1959 Dodge driven by Dorothy McBride Robinson 33 of Vernal sustained about 300 in damage each. Mrs Price was cited for failure to keep her vehicle under control. The Robinson driver was treated and released after a minor head and side injuries. Investigating officer was Vernal Police Chief Claudios A Banks.

Uintah County Sheriff Norman Fletcher chaired the 23rd Utah Peace Officers Association quarterly conference held in Vernal with City Police Chief Claudius Banks as moderator. Representatives from Utah departments and guests from Idaho and Colorado discussed criminals known in Utah, revised listings, and operation methods from Utah Crime Transcript. Deputy Ferris Andrus of Salt Lake County co chaired. the next conference will be in Logan in June with the Utah Peace Officers convention.

Vernal Manila Highway Bid Opening Slated
Bids to clear five miles of the Vernal-Manila highway covering about 82 acres will be opened March 27 by the Bureau of Public Roads. Clearing should finish before the next construction season to avoid delays. A report notes Sen. Driver Rolls Panel Truck For Total Loss
A Saturday night crash nine miles east of Jensen on USS 40 totaled a 1952 Ford panel truck. The driver Boyd C. Davis, 25, of Vernal and his wife escaped injury. Davis was cited for driving while under the influence after failing to negotiate a curve at about 10:36 p.m. The car skidded 400 feet then rolled 100 feet. Trooper R. M. Helm of Utah Highway Patrol investigated.

Pruning Meet Set Thursday At County Building
