Police Arrest Black man after 36 hour city roadblock
Vernal City police detained a U1 year old New York City Black man Monday at 7 07 p m after a 36 hour alert and night roadblock. AML agencies joined the operation. Reports say the suspect may have targeted a Vernal home occupied by two women and prowled a car near the bowling alley. The suspect, identified as Wim Thorne Jr, allegedly drove a stolen car from San Francisco. The chain of events began Sunday at 1 02 pm when Arvin Nelson found the intruder in his home. Nelson had returned from church and confronted Thorne while he distracted him with talk of a fire. Thorne fled outside, while in the house Mrs Nelson and another woman were alarmed. An immediate search followed with all local agencies participating and a roadblock set at the Utah Colorado line. City Officer Ray Gee later located an abandoned car near 6th West and 1st North with California plates. Trooper R M Wein confirmed the car was stolen in San Francisco around March 13 and disabled it to halt further use. By 7 pm the dispatcher had six calls. Continued on page 8.

Roads reported slick conditions and closures from Strawberry to Steamboat Springs with high winds. Forest Service and SCS survey crews assess the full precipitation impact as range prospects improve for spring and summer.
