Farm Worker Wage Bill Faces Congressional Hearings

Clinton Davidson reports on efforts to extend the 1.00 per hour, 8-hour day Fair Labor Standards Act to hired farm workers. Bills from Sen. Morse and others move toward public hearings, drawing support from organized labor and opposition from major farm groups who warn of higher production costs and regulatory burdens. The debate highlights wage trends, farm prices, and the need for equal treatment between industrial and farm labor. Farmers fear over-regulation and shifts in income, while advocates cite inequities and rising farm worker incomes in past years. The outcome remains uncertain as hearings proceed.
