Europeans and American weeds contrasted by Kephart
L W Kephart of the U S Department of Agriculture explains that most prominent American weeds, except sunflower, are introduced from Europe. He notes farms are large, workers few, and weed control limited, with perennials like bindweed and Johnson grass posing the main problem. Methods of control include cultivation, chemicals, or competitive planting. Some weeds now aid erosion control after harvest.
