Uintah County to Consider New Textbooks for Schools
A Uintah county text book convention in Salt Lake May 6 will review books for the next five years. Critics say Step ping Stones To Literature is too foreign and Werner's arithmetic too short. The semi vertical teaching system may replace the vertical method, and Prof. Sewards predicts this shift. The State University offers a ten week teachers course beginning May 7 1908 to help teachers obtain five year certificates.

Roy Hodgkinson was found guilty of a statutory offense with a five year penitentiary potential. Vernal Considers City Ownership of Water Works
The Vernal city council leans toward municipal ownership of a future water system but may grant a franchise if funds cannot be raised. Attorneys cite a $10,000 bond limit of four percent of $250,000 assessed valuation, with options to borrow or mortgage. John Conger and George Simonton, via N J Meagher, seek a 25 year franchise with city purchase rights at year twenty five and prices not exceeding six dollars per quarter per residence. The proposal promises cheap water and a flow pipe to a source on the fourth page.
