Liver-Eatin Johnson the Great Scout of Wolf Mountain
Elmo Scoil Watson recounts Liver-Eatin Johnson, a towering Norwegian scout with golden hair who joined Gen. Miles at Wolf Mountain in 1877. Tales claim he ate rival warriors’ livers after battles with Sioux and Cheyenne, earning his grisly nickname and a reputation for headgear defiance. Johnson later served at Fort Custer in 1881 before fading from history.
