Verdicts and motions in Vernal crime case multidefendant trial
Last Thursday a jury found David Rasmussen guilty and sentenced him to one year. Alma Rasmussen was discharged and John Rasmussen was bound over for the next term. In the State v Buys Bays Davis Cartwright, Davis and Cartwright faced robbery charges for holding up Veltman’s office and stealing $30 and papers. After delays and jury rounds, Davis was tried first, with witnesses testifying on tracks, revolver ownership, and planning. Dimick Buys was later dismissed, then testified about failed plans to rob Veltman. The jury ultimately returned not guilty for Buys, and Cartwright was released. the court prepares probate matters and may head to Provo.
