Building a Piggery Plan for Central Feeding Alley
The plan details a piggery with a central six foot wide feeding alley, twelve foot side passages, and a 30 foot wide building. A two foot deep cement trench drains urine from both sides while red troughs sit near the door. The 3 by 6 foot battened floor sections remove to clean the trench and replace absorbents. A rear cement manure pit measures 8 by 16 feet for storing manure until fielding. Planks form a sloped plank floor over packed earth with four coats of thin cement mortar. Manure is wheeled from pens to the alley and litter used to cover partitions to prevent leakage. Loft storage exists for feed or bedding. A tray door above each sloping apartment aids frequent litter supply. Plan 2 adds a fourty foot wide side alley and feed room. Pens are 12 by 16 feet, with rear floors on boards atop the former plan. Front feeding and manure areas are paved and slightly low to absorb liquids. Partitions between sleeping rooms are permanent. between feeding floors are hinged doors to create a drive through. Doors and yards may be provided as convenience dictates.
