Perpetual Mining Process Near Vernal Tied to Phosphate Deposit Plans
Salt Lake Rotary Club heard Phosphate Vice President Kee Wy Watt describe a near perpetual mining idea for a large Vernal area phosphate deposit. San Francisco Chem Co would run a 100000 ton daily plant with a 400000 ton daily flotation expansion as distribution issues are resolved. Key hurdles include lack of rail access within 50 miles and reliance on Western Phosphates Garfield as initial buyer. Ore would ship by truck, with new 69 kilovolt transmission and natural gas line added, wells developed, and water scarce but potential vast production cited.
