Local Pioneer Businessman William Henderson Dies at 72

William S. Henderson, 72, longtime Vernal pioneer businessman and civic booster, died Tuesday at Provo Hospital after a stroke. Born December 13, 1878 in Edmonton England, he moved to the United States as a child and later built a business career in Uintah Basin. Funeral services are Friday at 2 pm at the Vernal Third Ward Uintah Stake Center with Bishop Phil Watkins presiding.

Asmon Escape Report From Jintah County Jail

Asmon, recently sentenced to up to 20 years, escaped from Jintah County Jail around 9:30 Friday just hours before starting his sentence. Officers found no trace and believe he fled the jail using a self carved wooden tool. Deputy Hullinger checked the jail and nearby house at 3 pm. no sign of the inmate was found.

Former City Marshal Dies At Woods Cross

Former Vernal and Ogden civic figure Erickson dies at Woods Cross home of a daughter on Sunday. Born October 25, 1887 in Denver, he lived in Vernal 14 years, moved to Ogden five years ago, worked as a brick mason, and belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Survived by son Donald Thomas Erickson of Phoenix and daughters Mrs Banks, Mrs Lorraine Elmer, and Mrs Lavona Ingram. brothers Joseph Erickson and Cornelius Erickson. and a granddaughter.
