Edwin J Winder Celebrates 80th Birthday Sunday

Edwin J. Winder marks his 80th birthday with a family party at the home of Wisdawechter Mrs Walter. Born June 8 1867 in Galt Lake County he taught in Uintah County from 1900 and later farmed. A Brigham Young University graduate he served as a high priest and lay leader in the LDS Church and completed a England mission. He has long been a devoted farmer with a large garden and via descendants reaches 15 grandchildren.

More Rain Falls During Past Week Weather Summary

Rain continued across the Pike region with overcast skies and a threat of more showers. Reported rainfall totals include .86 inch for the period, with daily rainfall figures for June 5 to June 10 ranging from traces to 3.4 inches. Legion Carnival Opens Today at Fairgrounds

The American Legion carnival starts this Thursday at the county fairgrounds for a three day event. Thrill rides, a Norton Midway Show, monkey and dog acts, and a veterans information booth run by Withee Post No 11 are featured. Proceeds go to improve the Legion home with help from Mrs Grant Hacking and Mrs Paul Batty among others.

Gun Club and Jaycees Stage July Riot Event

Russell Montgomery, general chairman, says the Ver nal Gun and Rifle Club and the Junior Chamber of Commerce sponsor the July outing and series events. The day features a skeet shoot with clubs from Ver hal Roosevelt Price and Honey competing, a shooting gallery, a two-club fish scramble, a diamond classic, kids races and a boxing card for youngsters, plus food and drinks concessions. Proceeds support McKee Draw rearing ponds to stock Uintah County streams, aiding local fishing and game promotions.

John Nielson Feted on 89th Birthday at Home

Fires destroy store and farm barns in Giles county

Two fires caused damage to a store owned by N. Myers at 235 Sonn vee Ver nal Ave and to a barn and straw stack on John Holland’s farm in Giles County. The origin of the first fire was reported unclear and the second fire’s cause remained undetermined as of later events.

Funeral services for Richardson 63 former resident of Heber will be held today. He served two terms as Uintah County commissioner and was high council member Sikes. Surviving are his wife and children. Born in Heber and educated there he married Gieh Ang Harrocks in 1889. The couple later moved to Scotland with friends.

Polio Institute Planned at Uintah High School

Arrangements are complete for a polio institute to be held at Uintah High School on June 19 and 20. James W. Vailwood, chairman of the Uintah County Chapter of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, announced the event. Frank S. Emery, Utah State Director of the National Foundation, will attend. The institute is open to the public with instruction on polio treatment techniques. Demonstrations will include two hot pack machines and plastic iron wings.
