Oil well acid treatment boosts production in Uintah County
The Joseph Smith No. 1 wildcat in Flat Mesa Duchesne County flowed 26 barrels per hour after acid treatment, from a 45/64 inch choke, at 9103 feet depth. Previously it produced 400 to 500 barrels daily before declining and pumping. Carter Oil Co used 750 gallons regular acid and 750 gallons mud acid with other chemicals under pressure to kick off the well.

The $1952 structure, with a 12 foot throat and five foot high dike, diverts water for Murray and Burton Ditch users, serving ten farmers and 695 acres. Standard Oil of California plans expansion at Red Wash Field Utah County amid measures at Rangely Colorado. If approved 13 to 14 new wells could lift production to 4000 to 5000 barrels daily leveraging pipeline capacity and Rangely gas integration. In Korea, Pvt Verna Murray son of Mr and Mrs A H Murray of Vernal Utah serves with the 2nd Infantry Division. The unit captured Heartbreak Ridge in October 1951 and took Old Baldy last summer. Murray entered the army last October.
